The author of House Bill 137, Representative Carlos  Lopez-Cantera representing District 113, has accepted an invitation to the ABATE of Florida, Inc. State Meeting, February 9th in Pensacola, Florida.

Also attending will be Representative Dave Murzin representing District 2.

Representative Carlos Lopez-Cantera Representative Dave Murzin

They wish to discuss the issues concerning House Bill 137 introduced by Representative Lopez-Cantera on Friday, September 21, 2007 11:41 AM.

This bill has already been discussed in the Committee on Infrastructure and was temporarily postponed, which allows the bill to be rewritten and reintroduced.

Our Lobbyist was in attendance at this Committee Meeting and expressed the views of ABATE of Florida, Inc. which are:

1 - Obvious Discrimination - only motorcyclist are subject to this legislation.
2 - There are laws concerning speeding that are already in effect.
3 - There are laws concerning reckless operation already in effect.
4 - The proposed fines and penalties are excessive in comparison to other vehicles

We welcome the opportunity to speak directly with these Representatives, and ask that all in attendance be respectful and organized with our comments and questions. We are certain that the intent is to discover ways to control the reckless use of motorcycles, but in addition, we realize that discrimination toward motorcyclist must be eliminated.
